Short answer

Chop it is a meal planning app for UK households. You keep your recipes in one place, plan the week's dinners and shop them from one merged list. It runs on iPhone, in the browser and inside ChatGPT on one account, and it's free to start, with over 1,300 of our own recipes to plan from.

Contents

This Week

This Week is the plan you're cooking from, and the app opens on it. Each dinner scales to the number of people eating, and the week is still there on Thursday, which a ChatGPT conversation can't manage.

When it's empty, tap Build my week, choose three, four or five dinners and pick them from the Recipe Library. Cook mode takes you through a recipe step by step. Share a week as a link so the household sees the same plan. If you allow notifications, a Sunday reminder prompts you to plan the next one.

Recipe Library

Three views of every recipe you can cook from:

  • All recipes: everything together.
  • Mine: recipes you've saved, imported or written yourself.
  • Chef IQ: our catalogue of over 1,300 recipes, also public at chop-it.com/recipes by cuisine and collection.

Our recipes are written taste-first, in British English with UK metric quantities. New mains aim for five or six different plants where that suits the dish, and supermarket shortcuts are fine. Each one has quantities, a method and macros.

Add your own from a recipe website, a TikTok or Instagram link, a photo of a cookbook page, a photo of a meal you want to recreate, or by typing it in. Imports are rewritten in British English and UK metric and credited Inspired by, with a link to the original. How to save recipes from anywhere covers each route.

Saved Weeks

Past weeks, kept as they were. Tap Use this week to cook one again; the saved copy doesn't change.

Pantry

What's in your fridge, freezer and cupboards. Shopping and cooking keep it roughly up to date.

  • Add a shop by hand, or use Scan ingredients to photograph a veg box or delivery and confirm what it found (1 credit per scan).
  • Mark a meal cooked and its ingredients come off. Undo puts them back.
  • Each item gets a planning reminder matched to its type, from two days for fish to a fortnight for hardy veg. Packaging instructions and use-by dates always come first.

The pantry shortens your shopping list and lets you start a dinner from what you've got. The pantry page has the detail, and our food waste guide covers why it matters.

Shop

Shop turns the week's recipes into one shopping list. The same ingredient across recipes becomes one line with a total, and pantry items are left out unless you add them back. Read it combined or by recipe. How AI shopping lists work explains the merging.

To buy, send the list to Whisk for online ordering, or use Shop at your supermarket to search Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Ocado or Waitrose line by line. You check out with the supermarket. Chop it doesn't buy anything for you.

Chef IQ

Chef IQ is where the app does jobs for you. Plan my week is free. Most other jobs cost 1 credit, and the app tells you before you start.

  • Plan my week: picks a week of dinners from the library. Swap any you don't fancy, as often as you like.
  • Pantry Check: looks at your fridge, freezer and cupboards together and points out what to use first. One credit covers all three for 24 hours.
  • Make me a recipe: describe what you want and get one finished recipe.
  • Fix my recipes: tidies your saved recipes, up to 10 at a time, so they cook and shop properly.
  • Chef IQ Shop: takes the week's list to a supermarket review. An optional tidy (1 credit) sets sensible pack sizes and applies your buying preferences.
  • Add a recipe: the ways to bring in a recipe, with how many free imports you have left this week.

Weekly balance

Weekly balance shows how the dinners on This Week sit for protein, fibre and plants, and how many different plants each one adds. It's a guide to variety, not a health score. On Pro, Improve this week suggests changes that would raise it, for 1 credit when it finds one. What Weekly balance measures has the detail.

Chop it in ChatGPT

Chop it also runs inside ChatGPT, free, and shows up in ChatGPT's apps as Chop it. It's where to talk things through: what to cook from your fridge, a swap for an ingredient, or the shape of the week. Without an account you can search recipes, open one, draft a week and choose each dinner.

Tap Connect Chop it and sign in with your Chop it account for the rest: saving recipes and weeks, your library and pantry, This Week, the shopping list and imports (up to five per session).

It can't check out, show prices or make recipe images. When you're ready to shop, it opens Chop it's review page with links to search each supermarket. Chop it vs ChatGPT compares the two.

What it costs

Free to start. This Week, the library, Saved Weeks, Pantry, Shop and Plan my week cost nothing, and so does Chop it in ChatGPT. Jobs that call AI cost 1 credit each, because we pay for those calls: Pantry Check, Make me a recipe, Fix my recipes, a recipe image, a pantry photo scan, recreating a meal from a photo, the Shop Ready tidy and Improve this week.

  • Free credits: new accounts get 5 free Chef IQ jobs, and every account gets 3 free credits a week. Weekly credits don't build up.
  • Imports: the first 10 each week are free, then 1 credit each.
  • Pro: 50 credits a month, and 25% of unused credits roll over. It's £2.99 a month or £24.99 a year, currently discounted to £19.99 for the first year. The App Store shows the exact price and renewal terms before you subscribe.

There's no free trial, and credit packs are no longer sold.

Quick answers

  • Is Chop it free?
Yes, to start. Planning the week, the library, the shopping list and Chop it in ChatGPT are free. Jobs that call AI cost a credit, and every account gets 3 free credits a week. What it costs, above, has the rest.
  • What is Chef IQ?
Two things share the name. The Chef IQ catalogue is our own collection of over 1,300 recipes, in the Recipe Library and public at chop-it.com/recipes. The Chef IQ hub is where the app does jobs for you: Plan my week, Pantry Check, Make me a recipe, Fix my recipes, Chef IQ Shop and Add a recipe.
  • Does Chop it work on Android?
Yes. The Android app has been on Google Play since 14 October 2026, with the same account as the iPhone app on the UK App Store. On any other device, use Chop it in the browser or inside ChatGPT.
  • Can Chop it plan around foods we don’t eat?
Yes. In Food preferences, set a diet, foods to avoid and dislikes, and Chop it leaves those foods out of the library, Plan my week and Make me a recipe. It isn’t built for managing allergies, so always check labels and ingredients.
  • Is it the same plan on iPhone, in the browser and in ChatGPT?
Yes. It’s one account, so your recipes, This Week, Saved Weeks and pantry are the same in the iPhone app and the browser, and in ChatGPT once you tap Connect Chop it and sign in.
